At FBC we want to provide a safe and stimulating place for people to ask questions, explore, learn and grow on their journey of faith.

The study of scripture is vital to our ability to be the presence of Christ and reflect the nature of God. The Bible invites us to look at God, the world and even ourselves in ways that make it possible for us to reflect upon the meaning of life and our role in it.

This is why we take Bible study seriously, value each person’s perspective, and welcome everyone’s questions. We invite you to visit one or more of these groups that meet on Sundays at 9:45 a.m.

Nest:  Located in the conference room next to rear entrance and fellowship hall. General age range: couples and single parents with young children and teens. Teachers: Clay and Jane Mason. This Fall, we are picking up on our study of the Book of Matthew for 6 more weeks before moving to Luke.

Ethics Daily curriculum guides our discussion by engaging Biblical texts on the topic of discipleship and ethics. Whatever we study is done in community with weekly smiles and laughter for all in attendance.

We use The Connections curriculum which presents an ecumenical mix of traditional Bible study (NRSV) and contemporary insight. Following the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL), Connections provides our class with a plan for reading and studying the Bible. It often corresponds to the sermon of the day. Our discussions help in knowing the content of the Bible, understanding its message, and responding to that message by living a life of faith and love.

Pollyanna Class: Located on the second floor of the Moffatt education building and left off of the elevator. General age range: women who range in age from 50-80+. Teachers: Carolyn McElroy, Adell Kemper & Rosie Smith.

Much of our study is taken from the Smyth and Helwys** Formations curriculum. Everyone has the opportunity to discuss and have input for each lesson. We strive to understand God's word and demonstrate His love and grace through our actions. In addition, the class places an emphasis on support for each other through struggling and difficult times. We also reach out to those in need in our church and our community.

Different members of the class serve as teachers on a monthly basis with each one brining a unique approach to Bible study. Teachers: Elaine Greer, Janie Forman, Joel Jones, Melinda Simpson.

Elaine will be teaching the August series on “justice.”  We will begin with a look at Psalm 17 on a prayer for justice.  Then will spend 3 weeks with an in-depth study of the story of Joseph.

September will be a study of the children of Israel in Egyptian captivity; October will take us to the NT for a month of parables; November/December will be OT look at Truth and Justice and preparation for the coming of the Messiah.

**Classes using Smyth and Helwys Formations curriculum will be studying the following in August 2017:  I Peter, Managing Powerlessness. We will consider Jesus’ way, which trusts God amid suffering, submits to human institutions and authority, loves and blesses enemies, and powerfully moves to transform lives and relationships. First Peter reminds us that power does not ultimately belong to the world, but to Jesus.
