What is your prayer for our church going forward?
By Kara Johnson
My hope is renewed on Sunday mornings at First Baptist. I’m reminded that even I—one solitary, frail, imperfect being—am just as important to God as the tallest Redwood or the deepest ocean, and I’m reminded that salvation exists, even for a sinner like me.
There’s a strength in our church. It comes from the reading and study of the scripture. It comes from the singing of hymns. It comes from the eagerness of children to drop their coins in a jar. It even comes from the shaking of hands during our morning greeting to each other. That strength, which I also believe is the Holy Spirit, is what renews my hope and prepares me for the trials throughout the week.
My prayer for our church is that more people will come through the doors into First Baptist. I want them to feel the love, the fellowship, and the strength I feel in this place. I want them to face a new week having been filled with hope from the Holy Spirit flowing amongst the pews. I would guess that most people—at least at some point in their lives—struggle with finding God. I pray they will come to First Baptist. God is here.
